$145k buys you some of South Australia’s outback!

It's very very isolated but it could be yours for $145,000

I’m holidaying in South Australia this week, and (as one does on holidays) I’m checking out the local real estate listings on Residz.com.

One area we’re keen to see is the historic copper mining town of Blinman in the Flinders Ranges, and, lo and behold, there are two blocks of land for sale nearby. They’re affordable and they’re beautiful, but they are very, very isolated.

Blinman is located 510 km north of Adelaide via Port Augusta and Wilpena Pound.

All This Can Be Yours From $145,000

Seven blocks have been up for sale in this subdivision offered through Harcourts Wine Coast. Priced from $145,000 - $330,000, the address is Lot 2 Parachilna Gorge Road, Blinman, South Australia.

Harcourts says this is the only freehold land currently available in the Northern and Central Flinders, and a 100-acre wildlife reserve is set to be established along its boundary, supporting the preservation of kangaroos, emus, wedge-tailed eagles, corellas, and echidnas.

Outback Enthusiasts Already Buying

70% of the blocks are sold already, leaving just the two blocks available to buyers.  Allotment 18 - Mopoke - is approximately 16 acres and access is by gazetted public road via South Blinman + right-of-way over allotment 25. It’s described as an “allocated campsite” and mainly flat, with trees and a creek. Price is $145,000.

The bigger allotment of the two for sale comprises “pieces 26 and 27” of approximately 75 acres. Access is by gazetted public road via South Blinman + right-of-way over 18, 19, 25. There’s an “allocated campsite” which is mainly flat, a non-functional bore, an 1870's copper mine and trees and creek - all for $330,000.

Harcourts say these allotments are the perfect base if you love hiking, camping or exploring 4-wheel drive tracks with spectacular views across to the magnificent Wilpena Pound.

Harcourts say the Flinders Ranges blocks have the option to build a small dwelling, toilet and rainwater tank (STCC).

Ponder Evolution as you Explore Area

One of the things I’m really keen to do is to get close-up to some of the ancient rock formations that make up this dramatic landscape.

South Australia’s Department of Environment and Water shares that this area of Australia boasts an impressive geological record from the period of geological time between about 800 million and 500 million years ago, essentially offering visitors an insight into 130 million years of Earth’s history.

The sedimentary layers of the gorge are considered one of the best exposed sites detailing the planet’s evolution, and the nearby Brachina Gorge Geological Trail has been included in the World Heritage Nomination bid for the Flinders Ranges.

How cool would it be to own a “slice of history” on par with this?
